Army Distance Learning

Army distance learning means that soldiers and other military personnel who move from base to base or have been deployed anywhere in the world are not put at a disadvantage in terms of continual learning. Internet access or, in the event the distance learning participant has been stationed in a remote area, postal or package delivery for correspondence study, is all that is required.

Members of the military should be certain that the distance learning program of their choice makes exceptions for them in case they are deployed. Many schools permit members of the army who are sent to a remote area or to the battlefield to take an extension and complete the class or classes when they are able. Schools without such a policy might either fail the student for incomplete work by the due date, or withdraw them without a return of tuition.

Distance learning programs are free to members of the military through the Montgomery GI Bill, provided the institution and the program have been accredited by the Veterans Administration. Any classes that the student fails will not be reimbursed, either for tuition or for books and other materials.

The Army Training Requirements and Resources System gives global access to free classes designed to advance the careers of those serving in the military. By partnering with the American Distance Education Consortium, the Army Training Requirements and Resources System is able to offer Army personnel distance learning opportunities from dozens of institutes, including the U.S. Army School of Music, the U.S. Army Aviation School, and the U.S. Air Defense School.

Individuals with an Army Institute for Professional Development-issued identification number, including members of the National Guard, active and reserve soldiers, federal civilian employees, and certain noncitizens are permitted to enroll in distance learning courses offered by the Total Army Distance Learning Program. The mission statement of the program is to “improve Army readiness by providing rigorous, relevant, and tailored distributed training and education to Soldiers, Leaders, and Army Civilians anytime anywhere from a responsive and accessible delivery capability.”

The Total Army Distance Learning Program is an excellent choice for military personnel. It engages a range of delivery methods to help students succeed in their course work. These courses offer standardized training in a multitude of disciplines. warrant officers, authorized federal civilian workers, officers, and members of the National Guard are all eligible for Total Army Distance Learning Program training. Individuals who are not U.S. citizens may enroll in classes if they have been issued an identification number.

The program offers more than 250 courses in animal care, counterintelligence, terrorism, nursing, topography analysis, radar repair, and automated logistics and other subjects. Depending upon the course, graduates are given a diploma or a certification.

These distance learning opportunities mean members of the military needn’t sacrifice their futures to serve our country. Because course work is standardized, soldiers, officers, and other students don’t need to be concerned about the quality of their particular program.

Distance learning for army personnel benefits the military, as well. Areas with a shortage of trained specialists may be filled through distance training. Continuing education means that members of the military are up to date in the latest methods and skills. Using distance learning provides a tremendous benefit to the military by eliminating the need to establish training centers around the globe.
