Driving School
Driving is not only a rite of passage in the United States, but it can be a lucrative profession. Different classes of driver's licenses are available to commercial drivers. While driving schools are responsible for teaching non-commercial drivers, they also teach the skills necessary to earn a commercial driver's license. Some driving schools only teach non-commercial drivers, but they have special classes for teens and those with a fear of driving. There are a number of specialized licenses that the United States Department of Transportation gives to drivers who can pass an exam. The most popular commercial license is the P license, which authorizes you to drive passengers and requires both a knowledge test and a skills assessment. There are also special licenses for trailers (T), vehicles with gas and liquid tanks (N), hazardous material carriers (H), and the X license, which allows you to drive a vehicle with a tank full of hazardous materials. Each license requires specialized knowledge and some require you to be specially authorized by the TSA, the Transportation Security Administration. Finally, there is a special license for school bus drivers (S). Commercial driving schools offer certifications and help in passing the state and federal exams and requirements of the Department of Transportation. Graduates of driving schools must still pass a state or federal exam. Commercial drivers can earn a substantial income in trucking and hauling. Limousine drivers and cab drivers also earn high hourly salaries, but in many cities they face extra regulations and requirements.
