GMAT* Class

There are a number of different options for students looking to prepare for the Graduate Management Admission Test. Before you sign up for an expensive GMAT class, however, there are a few things you should know about the exam. First of all, the mathematical knowledge required for the Quantitative section of the exam is arithmetic, geometry, and algebra. There is no calculus, trigonometry, or statistics knowledge required. Most students will have received all of the training required for the Quantitative section while in high school. If you feel unprepared for any aspect of the Quantitative section of the GMAT, quiz your friends to see how they are planning to get ready. As for the Verbal section of the exam, there is no special vocabulary required for success on the GMAT. Unlike other admissions tests, the GMAT does not contain any exercises that require you to define words without any context. Some of the questions in the Reading Comprehension section may require you to define words, but you will always be able to view the words in the context of the passage as a whole. Furthermore, it is more characteristic of the GMAT to require you to identify the particular usage of a familiar word than to ask you to define a word you have never seen before. The rules of grammar and punctuation that are tested in the Sentence Correction exercises will probably be familiar to you from high school, as well. However, if the last time you considered the mechanics of standard written English was in your Freshman Composition class, you should probably review the basics before sitting for the GMAT. The same is true in relation to the Analytical Writing Assessment: if your undergraduate or professional career has not required you to write in the last few years, it would be worthwhile to refresh your composition skills before examination day.
