MD Jobs

In the minds of many people, earning a medical degree is the embodiment of the American dream. And there's no denying that it can certainly be a central plank in living the life of your own dreams, if you‘ve got a medical degree. There are all sorts of medical doctor jobs in all kinds of specialties, as well as general practitioners, and a medical doctor can, for the most part, work anywhere in America they choose. The job market for physicians, both MD's and osteopaths, is probably the best of any profession in the nation today. In fact, on June 21, 2005 the American Medical Association announced the results of a study which finds that there's a serious physician shortage in America, and that it's likely to get much worse in the near future. This was after years of the AMA saying that America has too many doctors, and lobbying against the opening of new medical schools. Now, their miscalculation means an abundance of medical doctor jobs all over the country.

At present, certain geographical areas are hardest hit. Of particular concern are the number of medical doctor jobs going unfilled in rural areas across America. Hardest hit are the Deep South, the Appalachian region, and lightly populated states such as North and South Dakota. Many local and state governments in these areas are creating incentive packages to attract doctors to fill the critical needs medical positions in these areas. In addition, these same governments, along with the federal government and some medical schools, are offering to forgive student loans of doctors who agree to serve in these areas for a certain number of years. If you're a recent medical school graduate concerned about your student loan debt, that's an option well worth considering. You'll be bringing much needed medical care to some underserved parts of the country, and you'll be helping yourself in the process.

Of course, not every doctor wants to live and work in these areas, and for those for whom this isn't feasible, there are all sorts of options for medical jobs. Where do you want to live? Name any part of America, and if you've got any sort of experience and a good track record, the odds are very good that there are medical doctor job openings there. And with many doctors of the baby boom era getting ready to retire in the next few years, most hospitals and communities are doing whatever they can to hire and retain excellent medical doctors. According to several new studies, the physician shortage in America is about to become acute, and by the year 2020 between 85,000 and 200,000 medical doctor jobs will go unfilled. If you're a medical doctor in search of a new position, the ball is in your court. Physician recruiting is a huge business, and all it takes is a few forms filled out and a few phone calls to some recruiting firms to have your pick of medical doctor jobs nationwide.
