Music School
The music industry is changing in many ways to accommodate recent developments in technology. Record sales are giving way to new platforms and revitalized venues for performance. The dominance of several record companies has been broken by the cheap, often free, distribution of music on the Internet. This means that opportunities in the industry have been greatly democratized. Although music is largely an art form of inspiration and emotion, it requires talent, technical ability, and diligence. The technical skills are best learned at a reputable music school.
Music schools offer programs for all needs. They offer individual classes in specific instruments to individuals looking to improve their craft. Other schools offer comprehensive degree programs in music. Some offer bachelor's degrees in music or music education. Others offer MFA (Master of Fine Arts) degrees or master's degrees in music education. Students must choose their instrument of emphasis. They also study composition, conducting, musical analysis, and computer software for recording and notation. Music educators must also exhibit competency in their music of emphasis.
There are many career opportunities for musicians and music educators. Since jobs in music are so competitive and many are temporary or part-time jobs, many musicians teach and perform as well. Music educators work in schools and in private practice teaching and coaching young musicians. They also coach student groups and orchestras, arranging compositions and conducting.
