Nursing Degrees

Nursing is the career path chosen by the ambitious and caring few who want to help people manage their health and wellness. Nursing degrees impart the knowledge and skills that nurses use to care for people during the different stages of their lives, from birth to maturity, childbearing to old age. Students learn the fundamentals of human health and anatomy. First-year courses tend to focus on the fundamentals, like physiology, anatomy, nutrition, and chemistry. Following years build on this foundation of knowledge with classes that teach the skills, techniques, and ability to analyze and treat illness that are the hallmarks of nursing. Students begin an intensive study of pharmacology, geriatric care, pediatric care, and neonatal care. They begin to decide what field of medicine appeals to them and match their course work with the requirements of their specialization. Students receive a variety of degrees, both bachelor's and master's degrees. Some common degrees are a Master's RN (Registered Nursing) degree or a Master's in Public Health.

Job descriptions for nurses show a variety of duties and opportunities. Registered nurses provide primary and secondary care to patients, helping them understand their own health and ameliorating pain and disease. They also work in nursing homes, providing care and treatment to the elderly. Nurses also participate in academic research and manage other nurses. Nurse practitioners diagnose ailments and provide treatment as well. People with nursing degrees are found in every corner of the health care industry.
