The pharmacist must check everything before the patient actually receives their prescription, but that is often the only time the pharmacist is involved. The job involves a lot of responsibility, but many people in pharmacist technician jobs report a high level of satisfaction. And the demand for pharmacy techs is growing. America is an aging country, and the older a person gets the more drugs they usually need. In addition, billions of dollars a year are spent in drug research and development by pharmaceutical companies all over the world, and many new and powerful drugs come to market every year. Pharmacy technicians have to take the PTCB exam to be certified. These are only two reasons why the outlook for pharmacy technician jobs is so good in the near future. And as the need for pharmacy techs grows, so will the pay, which is already pretty good. Many pharmacy technicians earn over $15 an hour after a few years experience. If you're considering becoming a pharmacy technician, there are several paths to getting a job in this field. Many pharmacies have their own training program, although this isn‘t quite as common as it used to be. But it's still fairly common, and you should check with some local retailers and find out how they fill their pharmacy technician jobs. They may hire you and train you themselves. If that's not an option in your area, there are many, many schools in the country that can prepare you to be certified as a pharmacy technician. Some are local colleges and some are trade schools. These educational programs are of varying length, so check with the schools in your area. Another option for highly motivated students is studying online. There are several internet schools that will prepare you for a pharmacy technician job and help you get certified in just a few months.
