Praxis II Social Studies Exam (0081)
The Praxis II Social Studies exam (0081) is a comprehensive and rigorous assessment for prospective teachers of social studies. The exam has six major content areas: United States history (29 questions, 22% of the exam); world history (29 questions, 22%); government/civics/political science (21 questions, 16%); geography (19 questions, 15%); economics (19 questions, 15%); and behavioral sciences (13 questions, 10%).
In the geography content area, the following subjects are addressed: the world in spatial terms, places and regions, physical systems, human systems, environment and society, and the uses of geography. The economics subsection, meanwhile, includes questions on both microeconomics and macroeconomics. The microeconomics issues covered by the Praxis II Social Studies exam (0081) include scarcity, choice and opportunity costs, economic systems, comparative advantage and trade, supply and demand, elasticity, market efficiency, the role of government, production and cost, product markets and the behavior of firms, factor markets, and the distribution of income. The macroeconomics issues include measures of economic performance, national income accounting, unemployment, inflation, the business cycle, national income determination, fiscal policy, money and banking, monetary policy, international finance and investment, and economic growth. In the behavioral sciences content area of the Praxis II Social Studies exam (0081), there are questions related to sociology, anthropology, and psychology. The sociology subsection covers socialization, social organization, social institutions, the study of populations, multicultural diversity, and social problems. The anthropology subsection covers human culture and cultural change. The psychology subsection covers basic concepts, such as learning and perception, human growth and development, personality and adjustment, and social psychology.
