TExES 191 Generalist EC-6 Exam Review

The TExES 191 Generalist EC-6 exam is a wide-ranging assessment for men and women who want to teach early grades in the state of Texas. The fine arts, health, and physical education domain of the examination only accounts for 12% of the exam, but it covers an incredible breadth of topics. These include techniques for personal and creative expression, techniques for understanding and promoting students' appreciation of art history and diverse cultures, techniques for helping students make informed judgments about personal artworks and those of others, and children's cognitive and artistic development. This section also requires comprehensive visual and aural knowledge of musical perception and performance, the ability to sing and play a musical instrument, and a comprehensive knowledge of music notation and music history.

This section also requires knowledge of techniques for creating a safe, productive learning environment; effective, developmentally-appropriate instructional strategies and communication techniques to prepare physically-educated individuals; and the use of formal and informal assessment to promote students' physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development.

Finally, this health section of the TExES 191 Generalist EC-6 exam includes techniques for professional growth; techniques for collaborating with colleagues, parents/caregivers, and community agencies to support students' growth and well-being; and the legal issues and responsibilities of physical education teachers in relation to supervision, planning and instruction, matching participants, safety, first aid, and risk management.
