Free Texas Real Estate Broker Test Review

The Texas Real Estate Broker Exam is a licensure examination designed by the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC) and administered by PSI Examination Services that is designed to determine if an individual has the knowledge necessary to become an entry-level real estate broker within the state of Texas. This exam assesses the individual's knowledge and understanding of the complex federal laws and regulations related to handling real estate transactions, the real estate laws and regulations of the state of Texas, and the basic principles and standard practices associated with carrying out real estate transactions. The Texas Real Estate Broker Exam consists of 120 multiple-choice questions, 80 of which are related to national laws, regulations, and other national real estate considerations, and 40 that are related to state laws, regulations, and other state real estate considerations. The specific topics covered in the national section of the exam includes topics such as property ownership, land use controls and regulation, valuation and market analysis, financing, laws of agency, required disclosures, contracts, transfer of property, legal and ethical concerns in real estate practice, real estate calculations, and specialized real estate concerns including the management of business opportunities, commercial properties, leasing properties, and subdivisions. The specific topics covered in the state section of the exam include topics such as commission duties and powers, licensing, standards of conduct, agency and brokerage concerns, contracts, and specialized real estate concerns including community property, foreclosures, landlord and tenant issues and concerns, and a variety of similar topics.

The exam-taker will have 2 and ½ hours to complete the exam and the exam is scored based on the number of correct responses made by the individual for each section of the exam. In order for an individual to pass the exam and receive licensure, the individual must pass both the national and state sections of the exam. Currently, 56 correct responses are required to pass the national section of the exam and 28 correct responses are required to pass the state section of the exam. In order to register for the exam, the individual must have at least 2 years of recent experience as a licensed real estate salesperson, 270 classroom hours of core real estate courses including a 30-hour real estate brokerage course, 630 additional classroom hours in courses related to real estate, and must receive approval to test from the TREC. The registration fee for the exam is currently $59, but there may be other fees and requirements in addition to this exam that are required in order to become a licensed real estate broker within the state of Texas.
