Understanding human growth and development and recognizing literacy development in young children are no easy tasks. However, those things and more are required of you in order to pass the Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments Early Childhood Education Test. To teach Early Childhood Education in Arizona, you must pass the AEPA Early Childhood Education Exam, AZ036, as required by the Arizona State Board of Education.
A passing score on the AEPA Early Childhood Education Exam is 240, and testers are given two and a half hours to answer 100 multiple-choice questions. Tests are available year-round, so you can sign up at your convenience. Results are sent out 1-4 weeks from the test date to the e-mail provided upon registering for the AEPA Early Childhood Education Test.
The AEPA Early Childhood Education Exam is split up into three sections to test proficiency. The two main sections each count for 38% of the exam. The Communication, Language, and Literacy Development section focuses on understanding communication and language development in young children, how children acquire second languages, creating a print rich learning environment, the foundation of reading development, and promoting young children’s writing skills. The Learning in the Content Areas section focuses on your ability as a teacher to facilitate learning in the areas of mathematics, science, social studies, and visual arts.
The last section, Child Development and Learning, counts for 24% of the exam. This section makes sure you know the process of cognitive, physical, motor, social, emotional, and language development of children. It will also test your ability to identify factors that may affect these different areas of development. Finally, you will need to understand how curriculum can be integrated and centered on how children learn.
By learning how to use children’s interests and experiences to encourage learning, following methods to motivate children to use oral language to communicate, and encouraging children to use learned skills in everyday life, you will be able to demonstrate proficiency on the AEPA Early Childhood Education Exam.
