The Cosmetology exam covers each of the following specialty areas: Scientific Concepts, Hair Care and Services, Skin Care and Services, and Nail Care and Services.
In the written section of a Cosmetology exam, you will answer multiple-choice questions; in the practical application section, you will be expected to demonstrate your skills on a mannequin or live model.
Some of the materials required for the practical application component of this series of tests will be provided at the testing site. For others, you will be expected to acquire your own materials.

Skin Care and Services (10%)
- Client consultation, analysis, and documentation for skin care services
- Tools used for skin care services
- Facial skin care services
Nail Care and Services (10%)
- Client consultation, analysis, and documentation for nail care services
- Tools used for nail care services
- Principles, procedures, and safety for basic manicure and pedicure
- Principles, procedures, and safety for application, maintenance, and removal of nail enhancements
