What is ILTS?
The Illinois Licensure Testing System (ILTS) exams are designed to ensure that individuals seeking licensure as educators in Illinois have the knowledge and skills necessary to perform effectively in the state’s public school system.
There are three main categories:
- Content Tests
These tests cover subjects in over 40 different endorsement areas, including math, English, science, special education, counseling, and many others. - Language Proficiency Tests
These tests are required for teachers seeking a license in bilingual education. - Teacher Performance Assessment
This test evaluates classroom teaching practice. However, the test is waived until September 2029 until a new version is developed.
The specific exams you need to take will depend on your licensure pathway. Check the ISBE website or consult with your educator preparation program to confirm your requirements.
