The AEPA Economics Exam is comprised of four sections that test whether or not you have the knowledge and skills required by the Arizona State Board of Education to teach Economics. Some of the test questions may not affect your score but will be used to gauge the test questions of future administrations. To be prepared for the AEPA Economics Exam, all four of the following subareas should be studied.
The Basic Economic Concepts and Microeconomics subarea covers three main objectives within approximately 28% of the AEPA Economics Exam. Testers must show understanding of basic economic concepts and terms, basic principles of microeconomics, and how businesses use resources and interact with the marketplace. Some examples include describing the factors of production, recognizing the difference between demand and quantity, and comparing types and characteristics of market structures.
The Macroeconomics, Economic Theories, and International Economics subarea is the largest portion of the test at 36%. Understanding basic theories of macroeconomics, concepts related to government decisions, principles of money and baking, and components of international economics and trade are the four main objectives of this section. Keynesianism, progressive taxes, the Federal Reserve System, and the effects of tariffs are just some of the key topics in this subarea.

The last two AEPA Economics Exam subareas each cover approximately 18% and both cover two main objectives. In the Economic Inquiry Skills subarea, testers must demonstrate knowledge of applying methods for interpreting economic information and analyzing economic issues.
