The Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments Reading Endorsement K-8 Test was set up by the Arizona State Board of Education to provide a standard that should be met by educators desiring to have an endorsement in the area of Reading. Passing the AEPA Reading Endorsement K-8 Exam, AZ046, with a score of 240 is required to have that endorsement.
Testers are given three hours and thirty minutes to answer 100 multiple-choice questions and complete one written performance assessment. Tests are available year-round, and results are sent out 2-6 weeks from the test date to the e-mail provided upon registering for the AEPA Reading Endorsement K-8 Test.
The AEPA Reading Endorsement K-8 Exam is comprised of four sections that test proficiency.
- The Essential Elements of K-8 Literacy Instruction and Intervention subarea makes up the largest portion of the test at 40%.
- The Assessment, Instruction, and Leadership Foundations section makes up approximately 20% of the AEPA Reading Endorsement K-8 Test.
- Next, the Literacy Assessment in Grades K-8 subarea makes up around 14% of the test.
- The final two subareas, Theoretical and Research Foundations and Content-Area Literacy in Grades K-8, each make up around 13% of the AEPA Reading Endorsement K-8 Exam.
Throughout the test, educators will see questions assessing their abilities to understand language and literacy, literacy instruction and intervention, the selection and administration of assessments in essential elements of literacy, and how to interpret various literacy assessments.
Other questions will assess understanding of phonological and phonemic awareness, word identification skills, instruction in vocabulary and academic language, fluency, spelling, and reading comprehension. All of the questions will be geared toward students in Kindergarten through eighth grade.
