The NYSTCE Chemistry Test is a test designed for individuals desiring to be certified to teach a secondary Chemistry test. The NYSTCE Chemistry is a Computer-Based Test (CBT), with testing centers all across the state of New York and nationwide. Prior registration is required to take this exam.
Testing appointments are available year-round, Monday through Saturday. The fee for the NYSTCE Chemistry is $134 and must be paid at registration.
The NYSTCE Chemistry Test consists of 90 selected-response questions (multiple choice, matching and/or true-false) and 1 constructed-response question (short answer, fill-in-the-blank and/or essay.)
Four hours is given to complete this exam, with an extra 15 minutes added to view a CBT tutorial and a nondisclosure agreement.
A score of 220 or higher is needed to receive certification. Also, an on-screen scientific calculator is provided to use during the test.
